About Department

Mechanical Engineering Department runs UG program with intake of 120 students approved by AICTE, New Delhi with effect from 2008-09. The department is equipped with dedicated and competent faculty members to impart quality technical education, project guidance, personality development to enable students to be placed with reputed organizations. With the vision to bring out cultured Engineered Engineer the department is going ahead to benefit the society at large from its inception.
Mechanical Engineering is recognized to be the back bone of any industry with amazing versatility. The program includes a deeper scientific study of number of engineering sciences to which the students are introduced at the core curriculum level. The department has state of art laboratories to impart sound practical knowledge of the subject.

The Mechanical Engineering Workshop caters to the training requirements of all the departments. It is spread over an area of more than 1000 sq. ft. and comprises the following Shops equipped with modern machine tools and related accessories: Machine Shop, Fitting Shop, Carpentry Shop, Welding Shop, Foundry & Forging Shop, Metrology and Sheet Metal Working Shop.

Forum

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has conducted An Installation Ceremony of the newly formed forum body FAME, ‘Federation of Active Mechanical Engineers’ on 22nd Sept.’16.Professor & Head, Mech. Engg. Dr. C. C. Handa was the Chief Guest of the function. Sir recited numerous examples based on real life situations to make students aware about the importance of life and also the ups and downs we all usually face in our daily life.

Department of Mechanical Engineering has organized an Industrial Visit on 24th Sept.’16 for the students of 5th Semester. Students were taken to Jayaswal Neco Industries Ltd., MIDC, Hingna road, Nagpur. Prof. Sohan Sarode and Prof. Ashish Dhunde accompanied the students. Around 40 students were taken to an Industrial Visit.

Faculties from the Department of Mechanical Engineering along with Head Dr. Prashant Washimkar had visited TAL Manufacturing Solution limited, Sector-3, MIHAN SEZ, Nagpur on 20/12/2016. Mr. Ashish Khole (Div. Manager-HR), Mr. Shrikant Gade (Manager-HR) with his team members had briefed about the company, manufacturing process and products. TAL Manufacturing Solutions Limited, a TATA Enterprise, is a 100% subsidiary of TATA Motors and is one of the leading companies in India.

Kadu briefed about the company. Company employs over 1,00,000 people across the globe and enjoys a leadership position in utility vehicles, tractors and information technology, with significant and growing presence in financial services, tourism, infrastructure development, trade and logistics.

The Department Mechanical Engineering has organized a Guest Lecture under departmental forum ‘FAME”, on 28th Dec.’16. The Guest Lecture was delivered by the Head- Strategic & Business Planning of Three H Systems Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Amol Hadke on the topic “Industry trends in design and automation with specific focus on CAD/ CAM/ CAE Software”. It was conducted exclusively for the students of B. E. 2nd, 3rd & 4th Year Mechanical Engineering

Mr. Milind Joshi is a Chartered Chemical Engineer. Department had organized an expert lecture for the students of Mechanical Engineering under departmental forum ‘FAME”, on 20th Jan.’17. The lecture was delivered by the Director of Surya Envirotech, Nagpur. The topic of the lecture was “Risk Assessment studies for process industries.”

The expert faculty Dr. M. S. Kotambkar, senior faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur has delivered the lecture. They made the students acquainted with the future prospective of dynamics of machines and their usage in different industries. The students were quite overwhelmed with the knowledge they gained and found it quite interesting for higher studies.

The expert faculty Dr. Arun Kedar, Professor of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Engineering & Research, Nagpur has delivered the lecture. He made the students acquainted with the transportation model and its usage in different industries. The students were quite overwhelmed with the knowledge they gained and found it quite interesting for higher studies.

Department of Mechanical Engineering under Student Forum FAME (Federation of Active Mechanical Engineers) has organized a Guest Lecture on Topic “Engineering Thermodynamics” delivered by Prof. Sachin S. Deshmukh, Associate Professor, Ramdeobaba college of Engineering and Management, Nagpur on 3rd April,17. Sir explained in his lecture the importance of Vapour Power cycle and correlates the thermodynamic process with the actual power plant industry.


CO-Curricular Activity (Specialized Training Program)

The Department of Mechanical Engineering had recently conducted a valedictory function of two weeks specialized training program on “Basics of CREO & it’s applications to Engineering Problems” and “Machine- Assembly, Disassembly & Functioning of Parts” under the forum FAME.

The Mechanical Engineering Department has organized An Intra- Collegiate technical event DYNAMECH- 2K16 on 14th Sept.’16 under the department forum FAME, ‘Federation of Active Mechanical Engineers’. The fundamental objective of this event was to create technical awareness in the minds of young budding engineers.

Department of Mechanical Engineering of Nagpur Institute of Technology in collaboration with Institute of Engineers organized third successive, An all India level Project Model, Power Point Presentation & Poster Competition, “Anveshan-2017” on Thursday 9 th March 2017. Anveshan is a platform provided for showcasing talent to emerging Engineers of the nation. The theme of national level event was, “Emerging Innovation for Development of India.” An opportunity was also provided to win award of Young Innovator -2017 which is basically a award of high repute to confer to the participant who presented creative innovative concept.

The Mechanical Engineering Department has recently organized parents meet as per the schedule. Invitations were sent to the parents telephonically and also through the students by the class teachers as well as by the respective teacher guardian.The fundamental objective of organizing the parents meet was to make know the parents the performance of their ward


OTHER ACTIVITIES

Inclusive growth ( SOCIAL EVENTS):

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a small program for ‘Jeevan Dhara’ Ashram. The event was handled by 2nd Year Mechanical Engineering students and the students of 3rd & 4th Year participated along with them. Around 17 girls and 30 boys attended the program. Faculties from the department also contributed their participation to boost up the energy of students as well as the people of the Ashram. The Ashram was established in 2002 by Mr. Gulab Dullarwar. Currently the Ashram is headed by Mr. Maruti Daralwar and Mr. Amit Kallamwar.

Student took part in the mission “Clean NIT Campus Mission” by distributing dustbins to all class rooms in the college.

Mechanical engineering students organized a very innovative kind social event for under privileged students under FAME ( federation of active mechanical engineer ). Around 36 underprivileged students along with 2 Coordinators from Upay Footpath Shala friend’s colony Nagpur visited to our campus. Upay is a NGO started by 2 Engineers for the Students those are poor and cannot take their Education..

ALUMNI TALK

The Mechanical Engineering Department has organized an Alumni Interaction with the students of Mechanical Engineering under departmental forum ‘FAME”, Federation of Active Mechanical Engineers on 13th Jan.’17. Mr. Anuj Patil, student of the host institution from the batch 2012 visited the college campus. Anuj is presently working at Hilti India Pvt. Ltd., Pune as an Assistant Account Manager.He specially turned up with zeal when he got to know that he has to interact with the college students. The basic objective of organizing this Alumni interaction session facilitate relationships between students and alumni which can help create deeper connections between students, alumni, and the institution itself.

The Mechanical Engineering Department has organized an Alumni Experian’s session for the students of Mechanical Engineering under departmental forum ‘FAME”, Federation of Active Mechanical Engineers on 06th Feb.’17. The Session was delivered by the one of the Alumni of Mechanical Engineering Pass in 2014 Batch, is a Sales Engineer in Solar Feeder. Session was on his experience about his Job and what the students need to remember for his life after Engineering course.
