Civil Engineering

Dr. Syed Zafar
Head of the Department
HOD'S Message

Civil is a course which instructs us how to assemble infrastructure and create an atmosphere which will be conducive for living in modern world. This course provides a gigantic umbrella and covers varied phases for students pursuing it.

Civil Engineering is the broadest and age-old engineering profession concerned with the overall human interface and traditionally nomenclature as “An art, on which the wealth and the well-being of the entire society depends” It inculcates into the person, the power of imagination to fashion the basic infrastructure & services that every citizen needs with a tangible approach towards sustainable physical and natural environment. Understanding the importance and need of this profession. The Nagpur Institute of Technology, Nagpur, established the Department of Civil Engineering from the Academic Session 2010-11 with an intake capacity of 60 students. Presently, about 185 students are on roll. The department aims at the providing quality education, practical teaching, case studies, field visits and promotion of research activities amongst the students through industrial tie-ups.

Vision

To foster Civil Engineering graduates by imparting quality technical education through need based technical skills with ethical values

Mission

Geotechnical Engineering Lab – The Geotechnical engineering lab is a practical course that trains students in the engineering behavior of subsurface materials such as soil and rock. Students perform various laboratory tests to determine the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of these materials under different loading and environmental conditions. Geotechnical engineering lab also equips students with the skills and tools to analyze and design foundations, slopes, retaining walls, and other geotechnical structures. Geotechnical engineering lab is an indispensable skill for civil engineers who deal with the challenges and opportunities of the subsurface.

Computer Lab – The computer lab in civil engineering is a state-of-the-art facility that provides students with the opportunity to learn and practice various software applications related to civil engineering design, analysis, and simulation. The lab is equipped with high-performance computers, printers, scanners, and projectors, as well as a wide range of software such as AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, MATLAB, ANSYS, and more. The lab also supports the research activities of the faculty and students in the department, as well as the consultancy projects undertaken by the department. The computer lab in civil engineering is a valuable resource for enhancing the quality of education and research in the field of civil engineering.

Fluid Mechanics Lab – The fluid mechanics lab in civil engineering is a modern facility that enables students to conduct experiments and measurements on various aspects of fluid behavior and properties. The lab has advanced equipment and instruments such as flow meters, pressure gauges, pumps, turbines, and flumes. The lab also supports the teaching and learning of fluid mechanics concepts and applications, as well as the research and consultancy projects of the department. The fluid mechanics lab in civil engineering is an essential resource for developing the skills and knowledge of civil engineering students.

Environmental Engineering Lab – The environmental engineering lab in civil engineering is a comprehensive facility that enables students to conduct various tests and experiments on water quality, air quality, solid waste, and hazardous waste. The lab has sophisticated instruments and equipment such as atomic absorption spectrometer, gas chromatograph, ion chromatograph, and real-time PCR. The lab also supports the teaching and learning of environmental engineering principles and practices, as well as the research and consultancy projects of the department. The environmental engineering lab in civil engineering is a crucial resource for developing the competence and awareness of civil engineering students.

Concrete Technology Lab – The concrete technology lab in civil engineering is a well-equipped facility that enables students to perform various quality control tests on cement, aggregates, and concrete. The lab has sophisticated machines and instruments such as compression testing machines, rebound hammer, ultrasonic pulse velocity, core drilling machine, and permeability apparatus. The lab also facilitates the teaching and learning of concrete technology concepts and theories, as well as the research and consultancy projects of the department. The concrete technology lab in civil engineering is a vital resource for imparting the practical skills and knowledge of civil engineering students.
